Our Impact in Numbers
100+
Endangered Species Planted
Our intent to assure the increasing abundance of medicinal plants that are currently in decline. We do this through our own conservation efforts, and by supporting like-minded businesses and non-profit agencies like United Plant Savers.
-CO2
Reduced Greenhouse Gases
Native plant and tree conservation is incredibly effective at storing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the soil. If every one of America’s 85 million gardening households planted just one tree in their backyard or community, those trees would absorb more than 2 million tons of CO2 each year.
60%
Less Water
Native plant species require on average 60% less water than lawns and non-native species. They are also drought and climate tolerant, and help prevent erosion. The deep root systems of many native plants increase the soil's capacity to store water, and can significantly reduce water runoff and, consequently, flooding.
No secret ingredients, just plants.
It's all about the plants. Nature did her part, we just found a way to turn her bounty into amazing products.
By the afternoon, she is an AgroEcological Consultant for her other company, Blazing Star. Blazing Star is involved with the restoration of native ecosystems and the practice of natural and organic agriculture: the health of living soil communities.
In 1990, Blazing Star started as a plant nursery with a mission to grow and keep alive the native seeds and plants rescued from a developer’s bulldozer in suburban Chicago.
Within a few years, individuals, schools, and businesses were using her services to recover and restore these native plant and animal communities that were lost during the agricultural and urban development in their areas.
In all that she does, her intent is to assure the renewable abundance of medicinal plants, to pass on ancestral knowledge about plants, and to create consciously-crafted products.
Meet Caron Wenzel, M.S. + Herbalist + Founder
Caron is a professional educator and herbalist who is committed to raising public awareness of the plight of our wild medicinal plants and to protecting these plants through organic cultivation, sustainable agricultural practices, and the replanting of native medicinal species back into their natural habitats.
Her goal is to ensure that these valuable medicinal plants be preserved for many generations to come, and the medicinal plant knowledge be passed down as well.
Caron wears a lot of hats...like a lot! By morning, you can usually find her teaching native landscaping seminars, providing lectures, creating restoration management plans, designing outdoor classrooms, and of course creating amazing herbal products.
